Inspiration
Very famous, the island’s Iron Masters of the past. The art of wrought iron has produced virtuosic examples in Sicily, they originated in the Baroque age and have known their epilogue in the Liberty age. The “petto d’oca” (“goose breast”) railings are a marvellous example from Palermo to Catania, from Taormina to Noto, they adorned the noble palaces’s balconies between the 18th and 19th centuries. The design is due to functional necessity “to allow comfortable access to the ladies bundled up in the bulky crinolines”.
