Inspiration
From Sicilia’s Perlato to veined Avorio, to Custonaci’s Brecce, to San Vito’s Rosso fiorito and even Rosso Montecitorio, to Rosso Kumeta and many more varieties. This is the great production of sicilian marbles, which garnish churches and cathedrals covering precious pavements, altars, colums and walls.
According to the legend handed us down by Dionigi d’Alicarnasso, San Marco D’Alunzio, the ancient Alontion, was founded by Patron dei Thuri who, after Troy,’s fire, wandered in the Mediterranean sea and pushed himself onto the northern coasts of Sicily with Enea and when he saw this hill, he decided to found a colony. It is recognised as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, it counts 22 churches, 4 museums, 4 libraries and even a 4th century b.C. greek temple dedicated to Hercules, monuments rich of the famous Kumeta’s Red marble, extracted in large quantities from the inhabited area and the surrounding area’s subsoil.
